Universal Pre-Kindergarten

Washingtonville’s Pre-K program was developed in response to the growing recognition of the importance of early childhood education. Since its inception, it has served as a vital part of the district’s commitment to equity, access, and student success. Over the years, our program has expanded and evolved to meet the changing needs of our families and community.

Enrollment in Washingtonville’s Pre-K program is based on eligibility and a lottery system. Students must be 4 years old by December 1 of the incoming school year. There are no exceptions. For more information, please visit Registration - Washingtonville Central School District.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the registration application by the designated deadline to be entered into the lottery. However, not all families who register for UPK are guaranteed a spot. Selected families are notified of placement and next steps.

We believe that families are our partners in education. Throughout the year, we provide opportunities for families to connect with teachers, staff, and each other through events such as:

Our strong Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) plays a vital role in supporting school activities and building a sense of community. The PTO values every family and child and works collaboratively to enrich the educational experience for all students.

We care deeply about our students and their educational journey. Whether your child is just beginning in Pre-K or preparing to transition to Kindergarten, we are here to support you every step of the way. Our teachers and staff work closely with families to create a welcoming, respectful, and developmentally appropriate experience for all learners.

At Washingtonville CSD, we believe academic excellence begins in the earliest years of learning. Our Pre-K program provides intentional, developmentally appropriate instruction that nurtures each child’s curiosity while building the foundational skills needed for future success.

Our curriculum blends structured learning with play-based exploration, fostering early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Children are introduced to letters, sounds, numbers, shapes, and patterns in meaningful, engaging ways that make learning exciting.

We also integrate science, social studies, and the arts to encourage creativity and real-world connections. Through hands-on projects, storytelling, and inquiry-based activities, students develop language skills, expand their vocabulary, and learn how to ask questions, think deeply, and express their ideas.

By setting high expectations and offering individualized support, we ensure that every child experiences academic growth while also developing confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
