Annual ‘Cereal Wars’ collects over 1,000 boxes of cereal

Annual ‘Cereal Wars’ collects over 1,000 boxes of cereal

The three Washingtonville elementary schools, Little Britain, Round Hill and Taft, hosted the second annual “Cereal War” on Tuesday, May 23, and Wednesday, May 24. Over 1,000 cereal boxes were collected.

“It’s a great fundraiser,” said Little Britain PTO President, Erin McEvoy. “It supports the local community and Washingtonville is wonderful at supporting each other.”

This friendly competition benefits the local food pantry, Country Kids Food Pantry, right in Washingtonville. Each school competes to see who can collect the most boxes of cereal.

“This is a fun and exciting way for students to give back to the community because ultimately it is the food pantry and the families that are served by it who win,” said Christine Williams, principal at Taft. “We are grateful for all the donations that have come in.”

“I brought in one box,” said Holden Herron, kindergarten student at Round Hill. “It is important to help people because it makes people happy.”
