The Making a Difference Award recognizes the many examples of individual teachers, aides, drivers, safety, and other District staff who are making a difference in the lives of our children throughout our buildings. Last week, Superintendent Dr. Larry Washington, along with Board of Education President Sharon Williams and Vice President Robin White, delivered the Making a Difference Award to each April recipient.
Sharon Perone, Washingtonville Middle School
Sharon is a great secretary and co-worker. She works harder than anyone that we know and our main office would not function without her. NO matter what type of day it is, she takes her time to always say hello to her co-workers and is always there to assist a student in need. Her dedication to her job is endless and we can always rely on her when we need assistance in our daily routine. Sharon deserves this award because she makes a difference in our school.
Elena Cozzupoli, Washingtonville Middle School
Mrs. Cozzupoli is a truly great educator. She has greatly improved the lives of her students through her ability to truly understand them. Truly great teachers are hard to come by, and Mrs. Cozzupoli exemplifies what it means to be an all around great educator.
Jenna Santagato, Little Britain
Jenna is an incredibly compassionate and talented teacher. She goes above and beyond for her students. Jeanna has an amazing ability to connect with her students. She makes them feel special, accepted, and capable of anything. When Jeanna walks into a classroom, all the children notice and gravitate to her! Jeanna has a lasting impact on her students. Her students remember her long after she has taught them. Jeanna also remembers them and fondly shares memories of previous students and their accomplishments.
Vanessa Sanchez, District Office
As our District registrar, Vanessa Sanchez is the face of the District for new residents. She meets with new families to our District every day and makes them feel welcome. As a Spanish speaker, she is able to communicate with many of our newcomer families, get them set up in the District, and make them feel confident in the registration process. Vanessa is patient and kind and always performs her welcoming duties with a smile on her face. Vanessa seamlessly works on behalf of new families by communicating with school counselors, transportation, pupil personnel services, and our ENL department to ensure that once registered, the children are put in touch with the departments from which they will need supports to be successful in their academics. Vanessa's pleasant disposition does not go unnoticed as she makes the registration process and introduction to our District a pleasant experience for all involved.
