The first day they were greeted by Superintendent Dr. Larry Washington and the administrative team; learned about the district’s various software and platforms, such as iReady and Google Classroom; learned about maintaining their own physical, social and emotional health; and given their ID and Chromebooks, among other activities.

On the second day the teachers learned about the district’s curriculum and social-emotional learning components they will be using. Teaching assistants participated in training on how to de-escalate  student behaviors and how to appropriately provide crisis intervention.

Teachers boarded a school bus and toured the district and community, in addition to stopping to visit each of the schools. They then went to their buildings for a scavenger hunt to become familiar with their buildings and met with their principals.

“We are really excited to have these new professionals joining Wizard Nation,” said Lynn Imperato, Director of Personnel and Staff Development for the District. “If they are successful, our students will be successful. We believe they will have a huge impact on students’ lives, so we want to support them every step of the way.”

All new teachers to the District are assigned a mentor teacher in addition to attending professional development workshops throughout the school year.
