Congratulations to Washingtonville’s very own Alexis Jones and Maxwell Mobray for receiving the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Senior Scholar-Athlete Award! They were recognized on Thursday, June 12, at an honorary breakfast for their achievements.
Alexis participated in swimming the majority of her life before deciding to join cross country her sophomore year. Ever since, she has been running for all three seasons and has seen major improvements in her performance. Her record-breaking runs started early in her career, as she currently holds the school record in the indoor 1000 meter, 1500 meter, and 4x800 meter relay as well as the outdoor 800 meter, 1500 meter, 3000 meter, and mixed 4x400 meter. In her sophomore year, she attended states for the 800 meter dash and broke the school record for the 1 kilometer her junior year.
"Alexis Jones rewrote the record books and will go down in Washingtonville history as the best middle and distance runner to compete for the Wizards. A repeat qualifier for the state championships on Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor track, Alexis gives 110% every time she steps to the starting line,” said coach Michael White. “She is a strong presence who elevates everyone around her by demonstrating a strong work ethic and positive attitude. She is one of a kind and her leadership will be greatly missed."
Alexis placed 5th at the NYS Championship 1000 meter, Qualified for five state championships, placed 6th in NYS championship 4x8 relay, broke numerous school records and placed 5th at the Nike Indoor Nationals Emerging Elite SMR. In the fall, Alexis plans to attend Howard University, where she will be studying biology for pre medicine and will be running D1 cross-country and track.
During Max’s athletic career, he has participated in soccer, track and golf, with soccer being his main passion. Max played club soccer most of his career, but played on the Washingtonville Varsity team his senior year, where they made it all the way to the section finals for the first time in over ten years. Most recently, Max has joined the Bermuda’s national soccer team, where he will have the opportunity to play in the preliminary games to qualify for the Gold Cup, and potentially the World Cup.
Max has received numerous awards during his athletic career, including 2024 Section IX AA All-Star, All Section Team, and was ranked 89th Nationally in 2022 for all 07s throughout the country. In the fall, Max plans to attend Harvard University, where he will study economics to be an investment banker. To read more about Max’s career, click here.
