Superintendent's Letter 8-16-2022

Dear Washingtonville Students & Families:

Welcome back, Wizards!

It seems like just yesterday that mortar boards were in the air over the football field, yet here we are, counting down the final days of summer before we kick off a new and exciting school year. I hope you were able to relax and recharge this summer and spend some quality time with those closest to you. And, I hope that you share my enthusiasm and anticipation for the incredible year of exploration and opportunities that lies ahead of us.

Everyone here at Washingtonville schools is excited to welcome our students back on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.  We all have a lot to look forward to in 2022-2023 – another school year that will be filled with academic, artistic, athletic achievements, civic engagement, and student personal growth.

Our schools have been buzzing this summer, with people from every department and every building working to get things ready for opening day on September 6. Prior to the first day of classes, the district will be hosting a series of orientation events. The following are the dates and times for these events:

Because we are still finalizing some class lists, some scheduling information for these events is still being worked out. For specific details about orientation at your child’s school, please contact the school’s main office directly.

The start and end times for normal school days are as follows:

Finally, I would like to extend a special welcome to all of the new families who have moved into our school district over the summer. We are glad you have chosen to come to Wizards country, and we look forward to you and your students’ contributions to the community. As I’ve mentioned before, communication is critical to education, not only between teacher and student, but between the school, the home, and community at large. We promise to keep you apprised of all the great things happening in our schools, and I encourage you to share your input and be an active participant in the conversation.

Enjoy these last couple weeks of summer and know that when your child steps through the school doors on September 6, they will be entering a safe space for learning, where everyone is committed to giving each Washingtonville student a quality education that fosters their academic, social, and emotional well-being.

I’m honored to serve as your Superintendent, and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Dr. Larry Washington
