Update: New Quarantine Procedures

Dear Washingtonville CSD Families,

Since the start of the school year, the intent of the Washingtonville Central School District has been to keep our students safely in school, for in-person instruction. In the interest of working towards this objective, we have updated information for WCSD families regarding quarantine guidelines based on a January 10th memo from the NYSDOH to schools and conversations with the OCDOH.

Quarantine & Isolation timeframes changed from 10 days to 5 days for Students and Staff

If you test positive for COVID-19

  • Regardless of vaccination status, please isolate at home. You can read more about Orange County Department of Health’s isolation guidelines here. After 5 days:

    • if you have symptoms, stay home until your symptoms stop or 5 more days pass

    • if you have no symptoms, you can come to school but wear a mask around others for 5 more days

    • In order to return to school after day 5, you must complete the Release from Isolation Attestation survey found on the District Health Service page on the website.

If you have been exposed to COVID-19

  • If you had close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 you may have to quarantine for 5 days. You can read more about Orange County Department of Health’s protocols for exposure to a positive individual here.

    • If you are fully vaccinated* and asymptomatic, no quarantine is required for school, however you are quarantined outside of school.

      • For extracurricular or after school activities, individuals 12 years and older who are eligible for a booster and not boosted, and who have been exposed to a positive case, cannot participate in extracurricular or after school activities, and aside from school attendance for instruction and bus travel, must adhere to a 5-day quarantine at home. There are no additional restrictions for 5-11 year old children not eligible for boosters nor those 12-17 who aren’t yet eligible for a booster.

    • If you are not fully vaccinated you must quarantine for 5 days with day zero being the first day of exposure.

    • In order to return following the 5 day quarantine, you must complete the Release from Quarantine Attestation survey found on the District Health Service page.

*Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after the receipt of either two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine or full course of any other recognized vaccine per the In the January 10, 2022 memo from NYSDOH to school administrators.

At this time, the District is not implementing any Test to Stay (TTS) protocol. OCDOH has indicated that further guidance will be coming in regards to TTS. There are many aspects of TTS which need to be considered prior to implementation and the District will re-evaluate once that guidance has been issued.

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate these evolving circumstances.
