Washingtonville teacher Mindy Fowler honored with 2025 Teaching Excellence Award

The Washingtonville Central School District is proud to announce that Mindy Fowler, a teacher at Little Britain Elementary School, has received the 2025 Mid-Hudson School Study Council (MHSSC) Teaching Excellence Award.

This prestigious recognition is awarded to educators who consistently go above and beyond in their commitment to instructional excellence and service to their school communities. Mrs. Fowler was honored at the annual MHSSC award ceremony on Wednesday, May 7.

“Over the course of her decades-long career, she has mentored countless educators, sharing her expertise and fostering a strong, supportive learning community,” Christopher Barrie, Little Britain Elementary Principal, said.

Mrs. Fowler was nominated by several colleagues, including Lindsey Krauss, Ashley Scelia, and Molly Dookhie. In their nomination letters, each spoke to the remarkable influence she’s had on both students and fellow educators, particularly after her inspiring return from retirement.

“She re-entered the classroom with the same passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to excellence that she demonstrated before,” Ms. Krauss said. “The quality of her teaching is as strong as ever, and her ability to create a positive, disciplined, and nurturing environment for her students remains a hallmark of her approach.”

Ms. Scelia echoed those sentiments, praising Mrs. Fowler’s ability to elevate any classroom.

“Mindy possesses a rare gift, she makes learning an absolute joy,” Ms. Scelia said. “Throughout her career, she has transformed even the most challenging learning environments into thriving, joyful, and academically successful classrooms.”

In true humility, Mrs. Fowler credited her colleagues for the recognition.

“I would never earn such an honor if I did not work with amazing teachers, terrific administrators, and an unbelievable staff here at Little Britain,” Mrs. Fowler said. “We are truly a family and we all learn from each other.”

The Washingtonville community celebrates this well-deserved honor and the continued dedication Mrs. Fowler brings to her students and peers every day.
