The bleachers at the Washingtonville High School track and field were packed with enthusiastic fans on Saturday, September 28, 2024, as they cheered on the Washingtonville Wizard football team for their homecoming game.
“It’s an amazing tradition where Washingtonville can bring all types of community members together to support a sporting event,” said Suzanne Lendzian, Director of PE Health and Athletics. “This really celebrates our community; the pride that we have here in Washingtonville, and the amazing students and people that we have.”
The game opened up with a rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner”, performed by the WHS brass ensemble before kick-off. Throughout the game, the Wizards kept a strong lead up against the FDR Presidents of Hyde Park, beating them 24-14.
Cheerleaders performed throughout the game, encouraging the team until the very end. During halftime, they showed off their best stunts and routines for the crowd.
The pep band also performed in the bleachers during the game, exhilarating the crowd to cheer the players on. Students and fans were thrilled about rallying behind their team, wearing complete blue and gold gear.
“I love going to football games, especially when I get to dress up and be with all my friends,” said Anna DiGiovanni, a senior at WHS. “I just think football games really bring everyone together and you're all cheering for one thing, there's no different sides. I think today is a really fun day, especially with the dance later.”
The homecoming dance, held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. will allow students to continue celebrating the victorious win from today’s game.
