Board of Education kicks off Connections and Conversations at Round Hill

The Washingtonville Central School District Board of Education is continuing its Connections and Conversations series for the 2026-2027 school year, giving families and community members an opportunity to connect directly with Board members.

The first session kicked off at Round Hill Elementary School on Monday, Oct. 5, hosted by the Round Hill PTA and featuring Board Vice President Robin White and Board Secretary William Hewitt Jr.

First introduced during the 2025-2026 school year, Connections and Conversations sessions are held in the fall and spring, offering an informal setting to ask questions, share feedback and learn more about the Board’s role across the district.

“One of the most important things we’ve learned from these sessions is how much common ground we all have,” Ms. White said. “Each of us is seeking the very best experiences and outcomes for our students.”

Ms. White and Mr. Hewitt began the conversation with an overview of the Board’s role, including setting district policy and goals, and overseeing the budget and resources. They also discussed what falls outside the Board’s role, including the day-to-day management of schools and individual student or personnel matters.

The conversation continued with questions from families about school operations, communication and how concerns and decisions are handled at different levels across the district.

“Smaller school-based sessions such as these are valuable because they provide an opportunity for two-way communication and collaboration with our stakeholders, which isn’t possible at regular board meetings,” Ms. White said.

Connections and Conversations will continue throughout the fall, with upcoming sessions scheduled at schools across the district:

  • Oct. 7: Little Britain Elementary School, 7-8 p.m.
  • Oct. 26: Washingtonville High School, 6-7 p.m.
  • Nov. 4: Taft Elementary School, 7-8 p.m.
  • Nov. 18: Washingtonville Middle School, 7-8 p.m.

“We hope parents come away from these meetings with a better understanding of the role the Board plays in their student’s education, and the best avenues to convey their concerns effectively,” Ms. White said.
