Major Board Responsibilities
- The board is a corporate body and can only take action as a whole governing body.
- The board selects and hires the superintendent of schools. They strive to develop a positive leadership team with the superintendent.
- It is the board's responsibility to evaluate the superintendent on a yearly basis. A responsible board also takes the time to review its own operations and relationships.
- The board remains mindful that board meetings should stay focused on the big picture and avoid minutia and micro-managing.
Responsibilities of a Board Member
- Evaluate the effectiveness of education programs and student progress, and sets long and short term goals, adjusting as needed to ensure continuous improvement and quality results.
- Set, review, and update board policy to give direction to all district staff and community stakeholders.
- Take appropriate action to provide adequate financial resources and oversee the financial operations of the district.
- Individual members remember that they have no authority to act except to vote at a duly convened board meeting or by the authority of the board.
