Register to Vote

In order to qualify to vote you must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, resident of the district for 30 days immediately preceding the election and a registered voter.

If you are not registered, prospective voters can still register to vote with the local county board of elections by completing an online application with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Voter registration deadline - May 14

Last day to register to vote is Thursday, May 14, 2026 between the hours of 11:00 am - 3:00 pm in the Central Administration Board Room.

Applications are required to receive an absentee ballot or to cast vote early
Completed Applications must be received by the District Clerk:
- By or prior to 5:00 P.M. on May 14, 2026, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or
- By or prior to 5:00 P.M. on May 18, 2026, if the ballot is to be picked up personally by the voter.
Absentee ballots must be received by the School District Clerk no later than 5:00 P.M. on May 19, 2026

Q: Who may use an absentee ballot application?

A: You may use this application if you are a qualified voter who resides in a school district that provides for personal registration for voters. You may only apply for an absentee ballot on your own behalf. If you are unsure whether your district provides for personal registration, please contact Carrie Rodriguez, District Clerk, at 845-497-4000 ext. 27001 or at crodriguez@wcsdk12.org.

Q: Who is a qualified voter?

A: You are qualified to vote in your school district if you are:

a citizen of the United States;
at least 18 years of age; and
a resident of the school district for a period of at least 30 days preceding the meeting or election at which you seek to vote.

No person shall have the right to register for or vote at any school meeting or election who would not be qualified to register for or vote at an election in accordance with the provisions of Election Law §5-106.

This application is not intended for Military Absentee Ballots.

Q: Where/when should I submit my application?

A: If you request the absentee ballot be mailed to you, your application must be received by the district clerk no later than 7 days before the election for which you seek an absentee ballot. Otherwise, you may personally deliver your application to the district clerk no later than the day before the election. You may not submit your application more than 30 days prior to the election.

Q: When will the absentee ballot be sent to me?

A: If you request that the absentee ballot be mailed to you, the district clerk will mail your ballot by regular mail no later than 6 days prior to the election. Otherwise, the district clerk will deliver your ballot to you or your agent, as designated on your application, when you or your agent appears in the district clerk’s office.

For your ballot to be canvassed, it must be received by the school district clerk by 5:00PM on the day of the election, Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Early Mail Ballots

In 2024, New York State has instituted early mail voting for any residents wishing to vote in this manner. Similar to absentee voting, registered voters must request a mail-in ballot in writing within 30 days of election (that is after April 21). Click here for the form to request an early mail ballot.
After verifying the status of the voter, the district will either mail the early mail ballot or the voter may pick it up at the district office. If a ballot is to be mailed, the request must be received at least seven days before the election.

All completed ballots must be received back to the District Clerk by 5PM on the budget vote and board of education election day, May 19, 2026.

There will be two, three-year term seats available on the Board of Education. Petitions are available for the following seats for the period July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029.

Petitions can also be picked up from Carrie Rodriguez, District Clerk, 52 West Main Street, Washingtonville, NY during the hours of 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Requests can also be made via email to crodriguez@wcsdk12.org.

38 qualified voter signatures are required on the petition. Petitions must be returned no later than 5:00 PM, April 20 2026.
