Michael Silva wraps up memorable year with state SAAC Conference

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Conference recently brought together more than 200 student-athletes in Albany for two days centered around leadership, teamwork and life beyond sports.

Washingtonville High School senior Michael Silva attended as part of the SAAC leadership group, helping plan and run the conference alongside fellow student leaders. Students played an active role throughout the event, organizing activities and leading the closing presentation. Read more about Michael's journey at WHS here.

Participants took part in team-building activities and breakout sessions led by guest speakers, including former NBA players Omari Pearson and Steve Webb. Sessions focused on leadership, community service, respect in athletics and preparing for life after high school.

“SAAC had a major role in the success of the conference,” Michael said. “As a leader, I tried to do my part to help facilitate everything and support the group’s efforts.”

Michael and the SAAC team also led the conference’s closing ceremony, which included a live trivia competition and a presentation.

"Being a part of SAAC has provided invaluable lessons and created lasting memories," he said. "It represents not just an ending, but the closing of a meaningful chapter -- one that reflects the belief that once an athlete, always an athlete.
