Washingtonville Middle School welcomes new Safe School Ambassadors

Washingtonville Middle School welcomed over 30 new Safe School Ambassadors (SSA) for the 2026-27 school year, bringing the program to more than 50 students, one of its largest groups to date.

The SSA program empowers students to help prevent bullying, mistreatment and other harmful behaviors among their peers while promoting a positive and inclusive school environment.

Students recently participated in a two-day training focused on recognizing conflict, responding with empathy and learning strategies to de-escalate tense situations. The training also helps students build connections with one another and staff leaders, creating a network of peer support throughout the school.

“I believe that students who attended the training feel empowered by their roles as Safe School Ambassadors,” said Jenna Korn, one of the program’s advisors. “Empowered to do the hard work and be the change that they wish to see within our four walls here at Washingtonville Middle School.”

Throughout the school year, ambassadors will continue meeting in small groups, with their efforts also recognized through displays around the building.
