Bus Safety Tip: sharing the road with cyclists

In the past few weeks, we have noticed an abundance of students choosing to ride to and from school on electric bikes, scooters, skate boards etc. In an effort to ensure safe travel for all, please keep the following in mind:
- Traffic laws apply to persons riding bicycles or skating or gliding on in-line skates. Every person riding a bike or skating or gliding on in-line skates upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this title, except as to special regulations. (V&T: SECTION 1231)
- Utilize sidewalks when they are available.
- Follow the directions given by the crossing guards stationed in school zones.
- Cyclists must obey the rules of the road, including stopping for a stopped school bus.
