Washingtonville NHS organizes senior citizen BINGO afternoon

Washingtonville NHS organizes senior citizen BINGO afternoon

The Washingtonville National Honor Society recently hosted a Senior Citizen BINGO event, welcoming nearly 60 local residents for an afternoon centered on connection and community.

The event was organized by Service Chair Megan Bushey, who coordinated outreach to local businesses, arranged donations and led volunteer efforts among NHS members. Students visited businesses, delivered letters and posted flyers across the area, including at Moffat Library, helping build awareness ahead of the event.

“We wanted to make it a fun day for both volunteers and attendees,” Megan said. “We had snacks, music playing and gift certificate prizes for each round. It felt like something everyone could enjoy together.”

For this event, support from local businesses helped shape the experience, with donations coming from partners such as Brother Bruno’s Pizza, The 5 Foot Baker and Weir’s Ice Cream.

NHS Advisor Erin Krogslund credited Megan’s leadership and the group’s effort for the event’s success.

“Megan worked tirelessly to make sure every detail was in place for our guests,” Ms. Krogslund said. “With the support of our students and local businesses, it turned into a really special experience for everyone involved.”

For Megan, the response from attendees stood out most.

“Several people asked when we’re going to host BINGO again,” she said. “It was a great experience for everyone.”

With a strong turnout and positive feedback, the event offered a simple but meaningful way to bring students and community members together, with plans for future events already under way!
