The Washingtonville Central School District is excited to announce that our Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, Suzanne Lendzian, has received the Section IX Athletic Director of the Year Award! This prodigious award recognizes outstanding athletic directors in Orange and Ulster County.
“Suzanne has done an exceptional job facilitating our athletic programs over the past three years,” said Superintendent Dr. Larry Washington. “Her dedication to the students and coaches does not go unnoticed, as she is constantly motivating and inspiring them. I know she will continue to excel here and I look forward to seeing what more she will achieve.”
Ms. Lendzian has always been passionate about utilizing her expertise and skills to enhance individuals' appreciation for physical education. She has been with the Washingtonville Central School District since August 2022.
In her role with the Washingtonville Central School District, Suzanne is responsible for all aspects of curriculum development and program planning for grades K-12 in physical education, health education and wellness development. She also supervises 58 interscholastic athletic teams, including various intramural programs. While overseeing these teams, she also coordinates professional development for the Physical Education and Health Departments.
Currently, she is the Vice President of the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as well as the female representative for the Section IX Athletic Council Central Committee. Suzanne also serves as a member of the Section IX Basketball Committee and the
Section IX NYSPHSAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Her education began at the State University of New York in Cortland, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education / Physical Education K-12, graduating December 2007. She also obtained a Masters of Science / Coaching degree from the university in August 2010. Additionally, Suzanne has multiple advanced certifications from Canisius College, including an Advanced Certification SBL/SDL, School District Leader Professional Certification and a School Building Leader Initial Certificate.
Her career began at Stuyvesant High School in 2008, where she was a Health & Physical Education teacher. During this time, she also coached the boys varsity volleyball team, the girls varsity soccer and the football team, before serving as the Athletic Director, and the Physical Education & Health Department Chair for New Exploration into Science, Technology & Math High School. In June 2012, she joined Manhattan Business Academy High School as the Athletic Director and Dean of Student Life. These roles provided Suzanne with the opportunity to foster inclusive environments for all students while encouraging their athletic passions. In April 2015, Suzanne joined the Fallsburg Central School District as the Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
