District welcomes new Athletic Director, Suzanne Lendzian, to Wizards country

Dear WCSD community.

I have exciting Washingtonville Wizards news to share with you!

Allow me to introduce our new Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics, Suzanne M. Lendzian.

Ms. Lendzian brings 15 years of dedicated education and athletics experience to our district. She spent eight years in the NYC Department of Education, and has spent the past seven years as Director of Physical Education & Athletics for the Fallsburg Central School District in Sullivan County. She has also had several leadership responsibilities in Section IX Athletics as well as on the state level. 

“A careful candidate search and screening led us to our decision to bring Suzanne to Washingtonville,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Larry Washington. “She demonstrated throughout the process, the kind of leadership and collaborative qualities an effective administrator should have, and she brings not only great experience and expertise, but great results in physical education, health, and athletics with her.”
 
In her role as an Athletic Director, Ms. Lendzian has made significant, positive impacts for student-athletes, most notably increasing the number of athletic offerings available to students. She resides in the Town of Warwick, where she was a three-sport scholar-athlete herself during high school. She has accepted her position here at Washingtonville in order to serve and lead a larger student population closer to home.

“I believe we are all lifelong learners and that a positive educational experience at a young age can help to foster a student’s joy of lifelong learning,” said Ms. Lendzian. “I am looking forward to collaborating with Washingtonville students and families to support academic and athletic opportunities that nurture dreams and pride that last a lifetime.”
 
Ms. Lendzian first gained classroom experience in NYC as a physical education teacher for grades K-12. She also served as the K-12 Department Chair for Health & Physical Education there. As an interscholastic athletic coach, Ms. Lendzian has worked with basketball, soccer, volleyball, and football teams. She has also coached various intramural sports, and enjoys helping students discover and explore athletic interests that can lead to lifetime hobbies, activity, and wellness. As a Dean of Students, Ms. Lendzian oversaw student discipline and school safety.

With the help of our exceptional athletics staff, Ms. Lendzian has been enjoying a smooth transition into the Wizards family. Her official start date is August 15.
