Making a Difference Award recipients honored for January 2026

The Making a Difference Award recognizes the many examples of individual teachers, aides, drivers, safety, and other District staff who are making a difference in the lives of our children throughout our buildings. On Friday, members of the Washingtonville Board of Education delivered the Making a Difference Award to each January recipient.

Joe Pierce, Transportation
Mr. Joe is our daughter's bus driver. He always picks up and drops off the kids with such a smile that lights up all of our days. He always leaves us with the confidence that she will make it back and forth to school safely, which takes a great deal of stress off of our shoulders.

Michelle Marion, Washingtonville Middle School
Michelle has made such a positive impact on the students which consist of students from the Aspire class and others who require adapted lessons in physical education. From the start, Michelle approached me to learn about each student that would be in her class. She had many thoughtful and insightful questions that showed how much she wanted to get to know each student before working with them. She has taken the time to get to know each student and their likes/dislikes and presents activities that engage all students in the class.

Elizabeth Roa, Washingtonville High School
Elizabeth is a phenomenal captain of the cross country and track team. She one of the most positive, kind, and encouraging students I have ever had the opportunity to work with, and she has helped to create a wonderful supportive team. The group of girls she leads support each other in and out of school, and we appreciate the kindness they radiate!

She is currently leading our indoor track team and she continues to promote teamwork, positivity, and hard work!
