Slam Dunk Success: Highlights from the Wizards Basketball Camp

The Washingtonville Wizards Basketball Camp wrapped up last week, with 80 basketball lovers in grades 4-9 taking part in the four-day camp located in the WHS gym. Led by high school basketball coach Daniel Malvey, participants came together to learn, improve, compete and most importantly, have fun.

Campers were split into two divisions: NCAA (grades 4-6) and NBA (grades 7-9). The NCAA featured six teams: Duke, Alabama, UConn, Mount Saint Mary’s College, Florida and Villanova. While the NBA division had four: Celtics, Lakers, OKC and Knicks. Each team was made up of 7-8 players.

Throughout the week, students participated in team practices, drills and exciting daily competitions, including one-on-one matchups, foul shooting contests and the fast-paced Two Minute Tournament.

Coach Malvey expressed his gratitude for the dedicated staff that made last week possible: Matt Donaldson, Josh McElroy, Matt Martirano, Matt Cutney, Dan DelGaizo, TJ Kosowicz and a team of student coaches.

“Camp is all about growing the game of basketball and creating opportunities for young athletes in our community to learn, improve and fall in love with the sport,” Coach Malvey said. “It’s always inspiring to see how much passion and potential these kids bring to the court.”
