In-person and hybrid instruction resumes Jan. 19: Review of health and safety protocols

Welcome Back!

As students prepare to return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, Jan. 19, we would like to remind everyone of our health and safety back-to-school guidelines and protocols:

Daily Self-Screening Check

As defined by our 2020-21 Reopening Plan, all students are required to submit a Self-Screening Check for each day they are on their school campus. This screening must be completed for EACH child enrolled in the district. To access the screening tool, go to the District website and find the “Self-Screen” navigation button, first on the left, below the photo slider.

Illness: It is imperative that sick children are kept at home. If any Self-Screening questions are answered YES, keep your child home from school and contact the school nurse.

Official criteria for returning to school (after a COVID-19 positive diagnosis, exposure to the virus, or traveling)

  • Student who has symptoms of possible COVID-19, BUT determined not to have COVID-19 by Health Care Provider CAN RETURN TO SCHOOL IF/WHEN
    • Student is fever-free for 24 hours without medication AND
    • Has negative COVID-19 test documented by Health Care Provider, if tested, AND
    • Has Health Care Provider clearance note stating student can return to school.

    • It has been Ten (10) days since the student last was in contact with the infected individual.
    • Even with a negative COVID-19 test, students must quarantine for 10 days after close contact with a confirmed positive case and should continue to monitor for symptoms through day 14.
  • Student who is returning from travel from any noncontiguous state, US territory or CDC level 2 or higher country
    • Must quarantine for 10 days and get a doctor’s note to return
      OR
    • May test-out of the mandatory 10-day quarantine by meeting this criteria:
      • For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:
        • Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
        • The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
        • On day four of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests comes back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine, early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.
      • For travelers who were out-of-state for less than 24 hours:
        • The traveler does not need a test prior to their departure from the other state, and does not need to quarantine upon arrival in New York State.
        • However, the traveler must fill out the traveler form upon entry into New York State, and take a COVID diagnostic test four days after their arrival in New York.

All travelers must continue to fill out the traveler form upon arrival into New York State to contribute to New York State’s robust contact tracing program. In addition, the Orange County Department of Health requires a doctor’s clearance note to return to school after travel.

We thank you for everything you continue to do to help us prioritize the health and safety of our entire school community. We are in this together so feel free to reach out to your school nurse or the District’s COVID resource coordinators:
