Keep Learning Alive this Summer: WCSD Chromebook Program

Keep Learning Alive this Summer: WCSD Chromebook Program

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Washingtonville CSD is thrilled to announce that all students in grades 1 through 11 can keep their District-issued Chromebook over the summer. This initiative is aimed at promoting consistency and ensuring that all students have equitable access to online learning opportunities. If your child is participating in District-provided summer learning programs, please ensure that they bring their Chromebook with them each day.

Eligibility Criteria

Please be advised that only students who submitted the signed Chromebook Acknowledgement Form at the outset of the 2022-2023 academic year are eligible for this program. This form is essential for the assignment and issuance of a WCSD Chromebook.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We understand that you might have some questions regarding this initiative. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions:

  • Q: What should we do if we move during the summer or withdraw from the District?
A: If you are moving within the Washingtonville CSD, your child can keep the Chromebook and take it to their new school. Please inform the new school about the District-issued Chromebook. If you are withdrawing from Washingtonville CSD, it is your responsibility to return the Chromebook and charger to your child's main office. Since offices and campuses may have specific hours during the summer, it is advisable to call ahead to set up a drop-off time.
  • Q: Can my child still access resources in Classlink over the summer?
A: Yes, your child's Classlink account will remain accessible over the summer break.
  • Q: Where can I find additional details and resources?
A: By reading the Chromebook Information Handbook which can be found here. For digital learning resources please visit the Digital Resources webpage.
  • Q: How should my child maintain the Chromebook during the summer?
A: It’s important for your child to power down the Chromebook fully during long breaks to keep it in good condition. If there are any technical issues, please contact the WCSD Technology Department at 1-845-497-4000 ext: 24412 between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, or submit a help desk ticket by visiting this site.
  • Q: Are there any usage restrictions or content filtering on the Chromebook?
A: Yes, WCSD’s internet filtering software will remain active on Chromebooks, even at home. We encourage you to monitor and manage your child’s internet activity. You can use GoGuardian Parent for this purpose. Learn more here.
  • Q: How should my child prepare for the next academic year with the Chromebook?
A: Your child should bring their fully charged Chromebook on the first day of the new academic year, ensuring that the device is functional and ready for classroom use.

Please remember that students are expected to take good care of their Chromebooks and adhere to the guidelines in the Chromebook Information Handbook.
